## Strengths (in this studio)

- **Unique synthesis engine:** formant filtering on FM gives vocal-like timbres impossible on any other synth
- Pads and textures with vowel-like character
- Extended FM (8 operators) for complex, evolving sounds
- Excellent for atmospheric / cinematic electronica layers

## Programming Notes

The FS1R is famously deep and famously cryptic. Worth investing time in:

- **Fseq (Formant Sequences):** pre-built formant motion data — start by tweaking these, then graduate to programming your own
- **Unlooped vs looped:** FS1R uses different operator behavior in unison and FS modes
- **Editor recommended:** the front panel is minimal. Use a software editor (e.g. the original Yamaha editor, or modern alternatives) for serious programming.
